BRC Global Standards / BRC audit
The British Retail Consortium is the leading Trade Association working in the UK retail industry.
Their Global Standards is perhaps the most recognised
certificate of product quality and safety in the world and is used
in over one hundred countries around the globe.
The Global Standards certificate was introduced to assist the food
and drink industry in meeting certain EU directives and the UK Food
Safety Act.
The certification is a key requirement for many businesses when
choosing suppliers and can be incredibly useful when businesses
face prosecution, as it illustrates their commitment to product
quality, safety and work practices. It is often recognised
internationally as the benchmark for best practice throughout the
food and drink industry and as a result suppliers will make every
effort to gain the BRC certification so that retailers may consider
using them as one of their suppliers.
A supplier who wishes to gain the BRC certification is likely to
have a BRC audit, resulting in a certificate and grading.
There are a number of alternative audits and qualifications
including the GMP audit, SA8000 audit, WRAP audit and the BSCI
audit.
