What IS a CV?

CV is an abbreviation of Curriculum Vitae.

A CV is a summary or overview of an individuals work experiences, life experiences and education/qualifications. CV's are used across the globe as an introduction to a potential job application. In many countries it is referred to a resume, however in the UK the common term is CV.

In the United Kingdom, a CV will often be around two A4 sides. In many cases there is not enough space to list detailed work experiences, and as a result a CV is just a summarising document. CV's are often updated when a person moves to a new role and when they become a job seeker. The development of the Internet has seen the introduction of a number of 'online CV' portals - each slightly different in their own way. These include the business networks LinkedIn and Xing and the online CV management channel iProfile.
