Kuwait's food and drink industry

The food and drink industry in Kuwait has seen growth from several angles. Across Kuwait, 2010 saw food consumption grow by 3.6%, with growth forecasts of +21% by 2015. 2010 also saw growth of the soft drink market by over 10%, with more growth expected by 2015 of over 25%. Hypermarket growth was of a lesser extent than food consumption and soft drink sales, growing just under 7% in 2010, but with staggering growth estimates of 45% by 2015.

There are a number of food manufacturing businesses operating in Kuwait, these include the Kuwait Food Company (also known as Americana), the Kuwait Dairy Corporation, the Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Co, United Beverages Company WLL, Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies (UCCS) and The Sultan Center (TSC).

In 2010, a huge amount of money was pumped into the non-oil sectors, one of which was food and drink manufacturing. Over 400 factories were built for manufacturing food and beverages, massing a huge spend of Dh32.9bn (over £5.5bn)
