Food Jobs Spalding

Spalding in Lincolnshire is the site of a new Food Hub. The three-storey project, built in Spalding's Red Lion conservation area, will be opened to the public in 2012. It is envisaged to be a centre where people can learn about food, buy food, make food, sell food, eat food and do business around food in order to celebrate the town's role as a hub of the UK food industry.

There will also be a transport hub that will allow local food producers to move their product out of the area via rail links to reduce congestion on the roads. Network Rail will be investing around £240 million improving the local infrastructure to handle the new freight transport.

One of the leading international food manufacturing companies, the Bakkavör Group, is located in Spalding. Bakkavör specialise in fresh prepared foods and produce, and have 57 factories and 20,000 employees in ten countries. There are excellent opportunities for new product development, planning and sales.

The National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) is located at the University of Lincoln's campus in nearby Holbeach. This is a specialist resource for the food and drink industry which trains 2,000 people every year.

The Food and Drink Industry is the largest manufacturing sector in the UK.

Last year, The Office for National Statistics demonstrated that the UK food and drink industry was the only sector to increase production, and that it has consistently maintained a stable level over the last two years.
