West Yorkshire consists of the five boroughs of City of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, City of Leeds and City of Wakefield and has a population of 2.2 million.

West Yorkshire has a long history of prominent food companies, from small independent confectioners to national retailers. It is home to two of the major supermarkets in the UK, Asda whose head office is in Leeds and Morrisons, which was founded in Bradford. Leeds was also the birthplace of Marks and Spencer which started out as a penny bazaar in Kirkgate market.

Arla Foods is based in Leeds and produces many leading dairy products including Anchor butter and Cravendale milk.
