Job Description

What will you do?
You'll join either our Food Processing or Packaging teams and help provide the innovation and technical know-how behind both our new products and our growth. Whichever area you're in, you'll plan and conduct manufacturing trials and half-day runs, develop new specifications and juggle the demands of a number of different projects at once. And you'll apply your logical, scientific approach to everything from product safety and manufacturing systems to legislation, timelines and costs.

What do we look for?
You'll need at least 280 UCAS points and a 2:1 or better in a relevant subject. For Food Processing that's Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or similar. For Packaging, it's Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or similar. You should also be:

  • keen to solve scientific and technical problems
  • able to put your points across clearly both face-to-face and in writing
  • good at planning, prioritising and managing your time.

What does the training cover?
Everything. After a week-long corporate induction at our Head Office with all our graduate recruits, you can look forward to:

  • a thorough induction into R&D
  • your own Mentor from the senior management team
  • a personal development plan
  • a number of placements in different R&D teams
  • off-the-job training to boost your leadership skills and business knowledge
  • absorbing projects that will take you outside your function and comfort zone
  • on-the-job coaching from leaders
  • regular performance reviews linked to stretching objectives.

How long does it last?
Two years, starting September 2010.

Where will you be based?
Mainly at Kitt Green, near Wigan, Greater Manchester although you'll also travel within the UK to work on different projects.

What are the rewards like?
Very competitive. As well as a £25,000 starting salary expect performance-related bonuses, pension scheme, private healthcare, 27 days' holiday and company share scheme.
