Job Description

Our client already has a significant operation in the fresh fish sector across Southern Africa, and they are now also developing a chicken manufacturing business too – so white protein is their main focus.  Supplying leading mainstream retailers, wholesalers and independent commercial operations, they have plans to grow the business into the leading business of its kind in its sector.

This is a stand alone Managing Director appointment based in Harare, although the operation covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia at present.  The client is keen to source a very high calibre individual from a strong fmcg background who has a commercial focus to their career to date.  This could have been gained in sales, marketing or business development; however, there must also be a real understanding of supply chain and manufacturing too.  Ideally the successful candidate will have worked on an international basis before, although this is not a pre-requisite.  What is key is that you are able to bring clear strategic direction to a rapidly growing business, coupled with a pragmatic and practical approach to delivering the plan.  This is an environment where there are no massive support functions or large teams of experienced senior managers to get things done.  There is a small, skilled and very willing team who are keen for professional development – people who are very up for the challenge this business is facing and embracing.

Interviews will take place initially in London but the preferred candidate will be taken down to Zimbabwe to see the operation, meet the people and better understand the relocation package.  The client is also keen to have the chance to give their personal view on the situation in Zimbabwe and cover off any concerns or questions candidates may have.
