Commercial Technical Director

Job Description

As Commercial Technical Director, reporting to the Managing Director, you will take overall responsibility for the Business technical objectives with a focus on driving food safety; raw material and product quality; customer; product and hygiene standards, process improvements and customer technical and associated commercial relationships. You will have a detailed understanding of the context of and compliance with UK legislation and EU Directives in relation to areas governing Food Safety, Legality and the Environment; and to ensure that advice given to managers in these areas is clear, concise and accurate, thereby minimising the company's exposure to risk and loss. Equally important is that you will have a detailed understanding of the raw material market in relation to trends, challenges and opportunities it faces, encompassing responsible procurement and sustainability.
We are looking for someone to develop a proactive technical strategy with a focus on excellence in quality, that enthuses the customer and who has a track record of delivery. You will be seen by the Retailer as highly capable and credible in technical fields and whom they can rely upon to deliver for them, promote innovation and provide competitive edge, drive consistency, brand protection and clear blue water.

Person Specification:
An experienced senior operator who understands the fundamentals of all associated technical disciplines.
Technical and commercially astute, they are safety and legality focussed, with their expertise coming from Technical, Quality, NPD and Hygiene background.
Degree/Graduate calibre, with sound technical background, seeing opportunities and taking positive action to transfer these into deliverable goals.
Senior managerial experience in managing a complex business.
A respected and 'people person' who will win minds and trust of their team and customers.
A character with good inter-personal who will 'sell' technical visions passionately to customers, teams and employees, but who is prepared to concede their position if a better solution is found and will tenaciously support the new way.
Logical and structured approach to guide and co-ordinate the Technical function.
A genuine and strong communication of ideas to all levels of the business and management, plus a proactive collaboration with other disciplines within the business.
