The Food and Drink Industry in The Middle East

The area is experiencing strong economic growth in areas such as the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and Kuwait. Figures released by the Food and Drink Federation show that growth in Saudi Arabia was up 34.9% in the first half of 2011. In the UAE, Dubai's growth has been phenomenal in the last decade, with a GDP growth of over 16.7 % per annum it has became one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Traditionally its economy was based on the oil industry, although now the city is becoming more dependent on tourism, construction, IT and finance.

Al Khaleej Sugar has successfully set up the world's largest sugar refinery just outside Dubai. Despite being situated in a non-agricultural are, the state of the art facility produces 5,000 tons of refined white sugar per day, employing 800 staff.
