Graduate Finance Jobs
There are a great many routes into the food industry, some of them don't even require food related qualifications. All food companies will need some kind of financial management, whether it's a small family company that needs account management or a multinational producer that requires analysis of financial results and recommendations to improve future development. Graduates in Business or Finance related subjects are often well suited to work in the food and drink industry.
In the UK the food and drink industry is the largest manufacturing sector, with an annual turnover of over £70 billion. Many companies now realise the importance of adopting more sophisticated financial models and formulating strategic and long-term business plans. Finance managers and accountants are needed to manage and analyse existing accounts and also to recommend policies for future purchasing and budgets. As one of the few growing industries in this country the importance of analysing statements and reports is becoming increasingly important for future development.
Business Secretary Dr Vince Cable recently commented:
"Food and drink is a key industry in an economy that has been through an extraordinary experience from which we are recovering. We have got to produce a model of growth that we can sustain, by shifting away from our excessive dependency on banking to manufacturing, from home markets to exports. Your sector is key to this. With its role as an employer and its high levels of innovation it is a very important industry and central to recovery."
