Jobs In Food Industry

About 400,000 people are employed in the food and drink sector with an additional million in agricultural and ancillary services that are directly linked in the supply chain. The Food and Drink Industry is the largest manufacturing sector in the UK.

The food you buy in a supermarket or a restaurant comes from raw materials supplied by an agricultural source. All food and drink needs to be packaged and most require processing in some form. This can include pasteurising, freeze-drying, canning and refrigeration. This requires distributors, food technologist, managers and marketing teams. Food manufacturers are constantly on the look out for candidates ranging from graduates who are just starting out to senior managers and directors with experience in business strategies, food technology and market analysis.

Last year, The Office for National Statistics demonstrated that the UK food and drink industry was the only sector to increase production, and that it has consistently maintained a stable level over the last two years.
