Lady Gaga Threatens Ice Cream Vendor
Lady Gaga, who recently emerged from a giant egg at the Grammy Awards, has threatened legal action against a store in Covent Garden for selling an ice-cream made from human breast milk.
The ice cream, named Baby Gaga, blends Madascagan vanilla pods and lime zest with breast milk, although it was soon confiscated by Westminster council who wanted to check it for food hygiene standards.
The ice cream, named Baby Gaga, blends Madascagan vanilla pods and lime zest with breast milk, although it was soon confiscated by Westminster council after two complaints over food hygiene standards.
The owner of the Icecreamists parlour, Matt O'Connor, stated that the star "has taken umbrage at what she describes as a 'nausea-inducing' product. This from a woman with a penchant for wearing rotting cows' flesh."
A letter from the singer's lawyers complained that the Icecreamists were "riding on the coattails" of Lady Gaga and that they had to "change the name of the ice cream to something which is not aurally, visually or conceptually similar to Lady Gaga".
The move has sparked debate between those who claim it is natural and promotes the benefits of breast-feeding and those who are disgusted by the product. On one side of the fence were those revolted by the idea of human milk, and on the other were those that claimed it was a hypocritical reaction when industrially reared dairy cows produce milk in less hygienic conditions than humans.
The Born Like This singer complained the ice cream is "deliberately provocative and, to many people, nausea-inducing".
Matt O'Connor commented "As for her assertion that our product is distasteful, perhaps she should reflect on her blood-spurting performance at the MTV Video Music Awards…We have applied to register the trademark Baby Gaga and are confident we'll secure this."
