Concerns over job losses at Northern Foods
Trade Unions have raised concerns this week about the takeover between Northern Foods and 2 Sisters Food Group.
The takeover, which is due to come to a close reasonably soon,
has concerned Unions with potential job losses as the new owner,
Ranjit Boparan, plans to increase efficiencies across the
factories.
As Boparan plans to increase his share in Northern Foods to 90%,
Unions are becoming increasingly concerned about Boparan's promises
to shareholders - which could mean job losses to improve
efficiencies and therefore profits.
Trade Unions are seeking a meeting with Boparan to discuss the
future of the Northern Foods employees following his letter
outlining cost saving initiatives that are more than likely going
to effect the Northern staff and reduce the number of food jobs.
These job losses are likely to tie in with office closures, and
although relocation to other sites may be an option for some of the
potential redundancies, this is not an ideal solution that suits
all parties involved.
Boparan has however stated that he does not intend to make any
immediate changes to the employment levels within Northern nor to
the locations of its factories and offices.
