Dairy food jobs lost in Australia
National Foods', a dairy and cheese production site in Australia, has announced its closure. Over 150 employees will loose their food jobs due to the site closure, which is the result of a long debate about the efficiency of the site.
The site does not plan to close immediately and employees have been told that their jobs will begin to disappear over the next three years - something that rarely happens in the UK. Whilst the loss of jobs is not a positive step for many involved, the timeframe gives opportunity to search for a new place of employment.
A number of the staff have been told they will be able to get a new food job at one of the other sites across Australia - one particular site is being heavily invested in and has plans for expansion - this is expected to take on some of the staff from the closing sites.
