Food jobs in high demand

Recent research suggests that food jobs are in high demand across various food sectors - food manufacturing, food processing and food retail.

As innovation is often seen as the key to the success of many food companies, food jobs are arising in many areas within food businesses to compliment any innovations. Whilst the initial development may start with NPD (New Product Development) employees, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, Marketing and Logistics employees are all required to assist in bringing new innovative products to the shelf when customers can make a purchase.

A classic example of innovation at the factory level is the reduced fat cheese. Sales of reduced fat cheese have boomed since its introduction, which appeals to not only the health consciou consumer, but also the family shopping customer. Whilst cheese experts suggest that there are many other cheeses other than cheddar that are lower in fat, the supermarket shelves are full to the edges with reduced fat cheese - whether it be a strong cheddar, a mild mozzarella or a tub of cottage cheese.

In food retail, innovation is also in high demand as the big retailers - Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose battle out between themselves to win the hearts of customers across the UK. Past innovations such as Tesco's Clubcard have proved to be massive successes, and retailers are keen to be the first to develop a new initiative that will encourage customers to continue to shop at their stores, or more importantly switch from one of their competitors.

The food industry is booming as new products and new innovations are announced on a daily basis - a perfect industry to secure a long-term role in. One that, contrary to popular belief, is also the largest manufacturing sector in the UK.
