Lyceum to buy Eat and create food jobs

Lyceum Capital, the Private Equity firm has acquired the food chain Eat. Terms of the buyout have seen Lyceum vow to signifcantly grow the business by over 200%, opening over 200 new stores both in the UK and internationally - creating a number of food jobs across the UK.

Despite Waitrose showing interest in buying Eat back in 2010 for an asking price of £100m.

Lyceum have made a purchased a stake in Eat of over 50% from the previous owners Penta Capital, although the amount paid has not been made public. The founders of the business, Mr and Mrs MacArthur, still have a minority stake in the business and are expected to be closely involved, largely due to their positions within the business as MD and Brand Director. The now 40% stake in their creation has been reduced from that of their previous majority stake.

Mr McArthur was positive about the new owners and see's the involvement of Lyceum as the next step in the expansion plans for Eat's future.

The plans for the chain will see one hundred stores opening over the next four years, creating at least 1,500 jobs.
