Waitrose to create new food jobs
Waitrose have unveiled plans to open a new store in Guernsey.
The store will create a number of food jobs in the area, adding to
those already employed at the first Waitrose store, which opened
last month.
The store will offer a training scheme to all employees, especially
those who are looking to stay in food retail for a substantial
amount of time. The training scheme is expected to encourage
employees to develop a food retail career and is likely to give
Guernsey a stream of skilled retail employees for the foreseeable
future. This training area, known as the 'Food and Retail Skills
Shop' is backed by the SSD and will be operated by the College of
Further Education.
The new 40,000 sq ft store boasts several facilities aside of food
retailing, including a homewares section, white goods section, a
pharmacy and a cafe.
The new store will bring 160 new jobs to Guernsey, whilst employing
around 200 ex-employees of Sandpiper CI.
The newest Waitrose also includes a Food and Retail Skills Shop. It
will be run by the College of FE and has the backing of the Social
Security Department.
