Technical Food Jobs within the Food Industry

There are a significant number of business leaders in Managing Director or Chief Executive level positions who have progressed from the technical discipline into their broader position.

This can partly be due to the fact that it is a function that is central to all functions within a business.

Many technical people will also gain exposure to customers and suppliers and gain a strong appreciation of the commercial issues of running a business. This will be coupled with significant experience of manufacturing and engineering and procurement and purchasing.

Research in the field commonly known now as Food Technology has been undertaken for centuries; Nicolas Apperts work in 1810 of the canning process was a key event having a major impact on food preservation techniques. Louis Pasteur's work on how to avoid wine spoilage in 1864 was an early attempt to put food technology on a scientific basis. He also undertook search on the production of alcohol, vinegar and the souring of milk. Famously remembered for the development of pasteurisation the process of heating milk and milk products to destroy food spoilage and disease-producing organisms.
