What is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for Really Simply Syndication.

It is, in basic form, a document or page on a website that contains a list of articles, jobs, posts, entries (etc) from a particular website.

RSS feeds are designed so that people can keep up to date with their favourite websites or blogs as easily as possible, all from one location - an alternative to visiting each website or blog one at a time. Each time a new article, job, blog entry or comment is published, the feed is updated.

How do I use an RSS feed?

You use a popular feed reader - such as Google Reader - which collates all your feeds into one place. You might use this reader on your PC, laptop, iPad or smart phone.

To set up your reader (using the example of Google Reader), you simply visit the Google Reader website and either sign in using your googlemail account or sign up for a new account. Once set up, you simply choose 'Add a subscription' and copy and paste the URL of the feed. In the case of Focus Management and subscribing the latest food jobs, you would use /rss

Why should I use an RSS feed?

It allows you to view all your favourite information in one place. You might use it first thing in the morning when you're having your breakfast, or on your lunch break, or throughout the day to read the latest articles or blog posts.

So for example, you might collect feeds from newspapers or blogs you like to read, whilst you might also like to receive vacancy updates every time a new food job is posted or product updates every time your favourite online shop adds a new product to its range.

How do I use an RSS feed on the Focus Management website?

You can do this by looking for the RSS symbol. There are general RSS feeds where you can get an update of all food jobs, whilst if you perform a search for a specific type of food job, you can get a feed of just those jobs through to your reader too. For example, a feed of all NPD food jobs in the north west.
